As the Edo state All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate Mr Godwin Obaseki begin its campaign tour to the 18 local government areas of the state, drivers have been trained on Health, Safety and the Environment.
The one-day training organised by the Godwin Obaseki Campaign Organisation in Benin City had in attendance members of the Association of Corporate Executive Cab Operators in Edo state, ACECOES who also endorsed the APC candidate for the September 10 governorship poll.
At the training, the HSE facilitator, Mr Steve Adeze urged the drivers to be proactive and always check their vehicles before driving them as the lives of pedestrians are also very important. He added that to make a perfect trip during the campaign all drivers must wear their seat belt on seat and obey simple traffic rules and regulation.
Mr Steve spoke to the drivers on the uses of the fire extinguisher and harped on the need to carry one around in the vehicle while driving.
While warning that stringent actions will be taken against defaulters, he said, “We are all drivers and the road belongs to all of us. So we must drive safely to ensure that those around us are not endangered while we are driving.
“The seat belt is not for decoration, it saves life, it is necessary at every time once you are on the road driving. We want to save not only the lives of those in the campaign but those outside the campaign because if we in the campaign make it a habit of using seat belt, it will give us credence and other people will emulate it.
He charged: “From this moment on, you are the mirrors people look at while they drive so you must drive carefully without shortcut. Follow the traffic rule and obey road signals. If you are provoke, don’t unnecessary get angry on the road but always be on the guard.
“You must live by example by doing the right thing”. He stated
On his part, the President of ACECOES, Mr Joe Nwoke said they have studied all the governorship candidate and discovered that only Obaseki has the people at heart. He added that he is trusted to continue the development of Governor Adams Oshiomhole witnessed in the state.
According to him, Obaseki has vast knowledge on how to grow the economy without oil stating that his presence in Edo politics is a sign of redemption for the people.
Present at the training, were the Coordinator of the Campaign, Mr Osakwe Aiyemwenkpen, Deputy Director, Media and Publicity, Prince Gregory Ogiogua and other members of the campaign.
