Benin, September 16, 2016 – The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the September 28 Edo gubernatorial elections, Godwin Obaseki, has promised to set up a Bureau of Business Development that would help Small & Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) develop requisite skills and access loan facilities to boost their businesses when elected into office.
Obaseki, who made the promise at an interactive session with over 2000 members of the Association of Saloon Operators in Edo State, noted that women in business would be major beneficiaries when the Bureau comes on stream.
“In the last 8 years, we have revolutionalised infrastructure in Edo State through massive investments in construction of roads, as well as rebuilding of schools and hospitals. Now, what we must do is to maximize these gains for the creation of wealth for our state, and more opportunities for business for our people.
“The people will be the focus of our government and, as a successful investment banker of 30 years repute, my interest is to help your business grow by providing an enabling environment. We would set up a Bureau for Business Development that will help identify your business challenges and assist in acquiring the necessary skills set, technical expertise and access to loans to boost your businesses.”
On empowerment of women, the APC flagbearer noted, “As I have emphasized often at our campaign rallies, our administration would focus a lot on empowerment of our women because, as the saying goes ‘No woman, no nation’ We will encourage registration of many small businesses owned by women and young people in the Bureau, so that they be major beneficiaries of our business development efforts.”
“You can trust me to deliver on this promise because this is what I have done virtually all my life”, he assured.
