The Chairman of Edo State Economic and Strategy Team and a foremost aspirant in the 2016 governorship race in the State, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki says he is in the race to continue the reform agenda of the Edo project and to fulfill his aspiration of taking the people of the state to the Promised Land.

He made the statement at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja while briefing newsmen after submitting his filled nomination and expression of interest forms on Monday 6th June, 2016.

He stated that, the Edo Project which was kick started about seven and half years ago was a deliberate plan which has been carefully implemented by the Comrade Governor.

He noted that the plan has led to the construction of over 1000 kilometers of roads, the building and renovation of over fifty percent of our primary schools and over thirty percent of secondary schools all across the State.

According to him, “I decided to get into the race of the 2016 governorship election because I am part of the reform agenda of the Edo project which started in 2007 when some of us Edos at home and in Diaspora decided that never again that we will sit idle and allow the pitfall and what has happened in Edo to continue”.

“You are all aware that Edo at some point was a joke in this country which typified incompetence, corruption and a state that didn’t work. What we have done so far through the instrumentality of the Comrade Governor was to set Edo in the path of progress. Edo is work in progress, eight years as you know is not enough to completely change the system. We are right at the middle of the rivers so to speak and we can’t abandon the ship at this stage. We need to get to the promise land and that is why I, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki has decided to get into the field and contest the governorship so that I can continue with our reform program”.

While responding to questions from newsmen, he said “ The support I am enjoying from the Comrade governor is based on the qualities he saw in me which also those who have come with me today in solidarity to submit my forms also saw in me and all decided to support me. These are persons elected by their people from different constituencies and they have gone back to their people and their people have given them the nod that Obaseki is the man for governor in Edo 2016” he stated.

In solidarity with him to Abuja to submit his filled forms were, the National Assembly Caucus Members of the party from Edo State, 18 out of 20 members of the party’s Caucus at the State House Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Honourable Elizabeth Ativie.

Others were, the Director General of Obaseki Campaign and Commissioner for Works, Barrister Osarodion Ogie, Commissioner for water Resources and Energy, Barrister Washington Osifoh, Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Larry Aghedo and the state Coordinator of Obaseki Campaigns, Osakue Aiyevbekpen, party leaders in the state among others.
