Tinubu, Obaseki, Oborevwori, others attend memorial mass for late Asagba of Asaba

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Friday, joined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; the Governor Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, and other dignitaries at the memorial mass for the late Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Prof. Joseph Chike Edozien.

Other dignitaries at the event include former Governors of Delta State, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa and James Ibori, among others.

Addressing journalists after the service held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, West End Umuagu, Asaba, Delta State, Obaseki described the late monarch as an accomplished Nigerian and an embodiment of knowledge and brilliance.

The governor said, “He was truly an accomplished monarch. He is the fourth Nigerian to become a professor and has recorded many firsts. He is a great academic who decided to come and serve his people.

“I knew him personally. He was an embodiment of knowledge, brilliance, respect, and excellence. He has done his own, and contributed his part, setting a good legacy for all of us to follow and be great. Always know that the talent God has given you is to be used for the benefit of his people.”

On his part, the governor of Delta State described the late monarch as a man of peace.

He noted, “Our late father is a peaceful royal father. He has brought peace to the Kingdom and Delta State. We were preparing for his centenary birthday before he died. He has done very well.”

His Royal Majesty (HRM), Prof. Joseph Chike Edozien reigned for 34 years and died at the age of 99.
