Obaseki mourns passing of Prof of Medicine, Vincent Iyawe

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has mourned the passing of the former Provost of the College of Medical Sciences, University of Benin, current Provost of the College of Medical Sciences at the Benson Idahosa University and Bishop at the Church of God Mission, Prof. Vincent Iyawe.

In a statement, Governor Obaseki described the late Prof. Iyawe as an emblem of excellence who achieved remarkable success in the various endeavours he pursued, contributing effectively to societal development.

He noted, “It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of Prof. Vincent Iyawe, former Provost of the College of Medical Sciences at the University of Benin, current Provost of the College of Medical Sciences at the Benson Idahosa University and Bishop at the Church of God Mission, an emblem of excellence who achieved remarkable success in the various endeavours he pursued, contributing effectively to societal development.

“Cerebral, brave, kindhearted and god-fearing, Prof. Iyawe was a stickler for hard work and imparted the values of discipline and integrity to all who were fortunate to benefit from his wealth of experience and knowledge.”

The governor said, “As a Professor of the College of Medical Sciences at the University of Benin, he contributed exceptionally to grooming and mentoring a generation of medical professionals who have continued to strengthen the healthcare sector both in our dear state and the nation.

“A consummate intellectual and administrator par excellence, as the Provost of the College, Prof Iyawe brought his experience and expertise to bear, repositioning the institution as a centre of academic excellence and a hub for groundbreaking research, making indelible marks on the sands of time.”

According to Obaseki, “He was pious in his devotion to God and ecclesiastic pursuit, advancing noble ideas to bring people closer to God. Prof Iyawe shone in a million ways. His candour and charisma endeared him to many. Indeed, the State and nation have lost a gem. He will be remembered for his devotion, love for family and commitment to the development of society. He will be sorely missed.”

He added, “On behalf of the government and people of Edo State, I extend heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Prof Iyawe, the University of Benin and Benson Idahosa University communities, the Church of God Mission, friends and associates and pray that God grants all the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Accept my sincere condolences.”
