I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of renowned gospel singer, Sammie Okposo, who passed aged 51 years.

Okposo was a gift to his generation, with a sonorous voice that calmed the distressed and lifted the broken.

He imbued his songs with so much energy, zest and verve that it transcended language barriers and appealed to millions.

Okposo was a good Christian, who was bold and courageous to do right when it mattered the most.

He will be remembered for his sincerity, honesty and his worshipful spirit.

I commiserate with the Okposo family and pray that God grants all the fortitude to bear this painful, irreparable loss.
