The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has commended the contractors for the completion of both primary and secondary drains along Adolor, Uwelu, and Power line-axis in Egor Local Government Area of the State and for the quality of work done on the flood control measures in the area.

The governor spoke to journalists in Benin City after an inspection of construction work in the areas, on Monday.

He said he was pleased with the quality of flood control measures in the areas.

The governor said that at the completion of the primary and secondary drains in the areas, flood water will be channeled into the master drain in Ogba River.

According to him, after the completion of the drains, the next phase of work is the rebuilding of Uwelu Road from Siluko Road through Uwelu Market and Power line to Adolor.

Obaseki added that in view of the plans to create internal bypass roads to decongest traffic from the Lagos-Benin Expressway, the road when completed will serve as a mini bypass, noting, “We came to check the work done at the Adolor, Uwelu, and Power line axis. This is a highly populated part of the City. The contractors have done a very fantastic job because of the drainage in this catchment area.

“Without drainages, we can’t build roads that will last, so most of the drainages have now been completed with both primary and secondary drains channeling water into the master drain that is taking water to Ogba River.

“Now that the drain work has been completed, I am here to see what the contractors are doing concerning building the roads. This is Uwelu Road which will be rebuilt, from Siluko back to Uwelu market, to connect Powerline and the work that has been done along Adolor. This is all part of our efforts to revamp our internal roads and get traffic moving around the City.

“We are trying to have internal bypasses to take traffic coming in from the Lagos axis to the Benin Ugbowo axis through that traffic into Siluko and onto Ekenwan road. This will be like the Western bypass, a mini bypass to take traffic and move around the City.”
