Obaseki congratulates Osakue on emergence as first Nigerian president of forum for advocacy, citizens’ engagement

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has congratulated rights activist and Executive Director, Foundation for Good Governance and Social Change, Comrade Austin Osakue on his election as President of the African Forum for Advocacy and Citizens Engagement (AFACE).

In a statement, Obaseki described Osakue’s emergence as deserving, expressing confidence in his ability and capacity to deliver on the new role.

Obaseki said, “I heartily congratulate foremost rights activist and Executive Director, Foundation for Good Governance and Social Change, Comrade Austin Osakue on his election as President of the African Forum for Advocacy and Citizens Engagement (AFACE).

“At the keenly contested election held in Kigali, Rwanda, Osakue polled 156 votes to defeat four other contestants from Kenya, Ghana, Morocco and Malawi, emerging the first Nigerian to be elected as president of the 32-member body.”

The governor added, “A fine democrat and strong advocate of good governance, Osakue has continued to distinguish himself, advancing courses to deepen democracy, engender accountability and transparency in governance and enthrone development and equal opportunity for all.

“This new feat attests to your brilliance, commitment and exceptional zeal to impact humanity and make remarkable change in society. I am confident in your ability and capacity to diligently deliver on your new role. Accept my most sincere congratulations.”
