The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said the government will ensure the reconstruction of the 19.5km Ogba-Egholo Road to alleviate the sufferings of residents and open up the area for economic activities.

Obaseki gave the assurance when he received delegates from Iyekeogba Development Elders Council led by the Enogie of Umegbe Community, His Royal Highness Anthony Osagie, who were on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin City.

The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha, said the government will commence the reconstruction project once the rainy season is over, adding, “The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki does not play with Iyekeogba Community because you have been a huge support for this administration.”

According to him, “Serious conversation is ongoing between the state government and all the stakeholders involved in the construction of the road and I can assure you that before the end of the wet season, it will come to fruition and work will begin there.”

On his part, the Edo Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, Hon. Newton Okojie, said the design and other logistics have been completed.

He noted, “The road is very unique because of the topography. A lot of water needs to be controlled in almost every street so that flood does not destroy the road shortly after its construction. I want to assure you all that the design and every other thing has been completed. His Excellency has actually been on my neck that the promise he made to you people must be fulfilled as quickly as possible

“So, we have tried to do a comprehensive work and the next dry season things will begin to happen on that road as it is difficult to mobilize a contractor now because of the season we are in.”

Earlier in his speech, the Enogie of Umegbe hailed the governor for the completion of the three classroom blocks in Umegbe Community.
