The Edo State Government has said it will commence enforcement of a statewide Motor/Vehicle Documentation Compliance Exercise beginning from 1st November, 2022.
In a statement, Chairman, Edo State Task Force on Internal Generated Revenue (IGR), Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Hon. John Inegbedion, said the enforcement drive is part of strategic measures put in place to secure lives and property in the state.
He noted, “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public particularly motorists, that as part of strategic measures put in place to secure lives, property and ensure compliance by motorist, Edo State Government shall embark on a Statewide Motor/Vehicle Documentation Compliance Exercise beginning from 1st November, 2022.
“During the Exercise, the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs), Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA) and Security Agencies shall be physically present on our roads, at all private and government motor, tricycle and motorcycle parks in order to give full effect to the exercise by ensuring motorists possess valid vehicle and driving documentations.
Inegbedion added that “Documents expected to be possessed by motorists are: Valid Vehicle license, Valid Driver's license, Valid Number Plate, Valid Certificate of Road Worthiness, Valid Hackney Carriage and Valid Vehicle Insurance Cover.
According to him, “To avoid any form of embarrassment, motorists with expired licences and documents are by this announcement advised to visit the nearest EIRS Offices across the state and not to patronize tout of non-government officials.
“For the avoidance of doubt, motorists found to be in contravention, shall be prosecuted on the spot in line with extant Road Traffic Laws,” he added.
