The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has said the state government has taken full control of the Federal Government Technical College, Uhenisi, in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area, after the institution was handed over to the state by the Federal Government.
He added that the college has been converted to a campus of the Edo State University, Uzairue.
Obaseki who was accompanied on an inspection of the college by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, said the delay in taking over the property was due to the need to finalise documentations on the handover
He noted, “The facility has been handed over to us by the Federal Government and we are in full control and will put it to proper use. The delay in documentation has to do with clarity on ownership of the facilities which has been sorted out. We are ready to make necessary investments. Before March 2023, you will see work start here.”
According to him, the state government will provide security for the community with military and police installations, who will secure the property and the community.
On her part, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe said the Governor Obaseki led-administration has converted the college to a campus of Edo State University, Uzairue.
The commissioner noted that the structure will focus on education, development studies and agriculture, adding that Governor Obaseki has engaged contractors who will construct the road leading to the school.
“The technical school students here will be moved to the technical school along Ehor Road. The school has some equipment which aligns with the state's strategy on Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) and the facilities will also be upgraded to reflect the new policy direction,” she said.
