Edo PDP holds National Delegates Election in 17 LGAs as C’ttee Chair commends conduct of poll

The Deputy Governor of Delta State and Chairman of the Edo State National Delegate Electoral Committee, Sir Monday Onyeme, has commended the conduct of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National delegates election which held across the State's 17 local councils, noting that the process was very peaceful, transparent and credible.

The Chairman and other members of the electoral Committee went round some venues of the election, including Eghosa Anglican Grammar School in Egor Local Government Area and Urokpota Hall in Oredo Local Government Area to monitor the process and interact with the delegates, INEC officials and electoral officers, among other stakeholders.

Onyeme who briefed journalists after the monitoring at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat along Airport Road, Benin City, said he was impressed and satisfied with the conduct of the exercise which he described as very credible, free and fair.

He said, “We have been here since yesterday for the election. We have gone round to observe the proceeding to see for ourselves how our National officers that we sent here to conduct the exercise are doing.

“We visited some areas and observed that the election was very peaceful and candidates were duly elected and in some centers in some of the local government areas, some candidates voluntarily stepped down for other candidates.

“Everything went on well and the election was peaceful as everyone were in agreement given the process credibility. This is one of the freest and fairest election that I have witnessed and I commend the people of Edo State, especially members of the PDP for conducting a very credible election to elect National delegates.”

The Committee chair further noted, “The results will start coming in any moment from now and as soon as we receive it, we will collate and also brief you accordingly.

“I thank everybody for being part of the process. I also appreciate the press for a good job as they are the medium through which others know what is happening.

“We thank God for a peaceful election and the result at this center (Eghosa Anglican Grammar School) has been accepted by all as the process was carried out in line with the guidelines.”

At Eghosa Anglican Grammar School in Egor, Chief Odion Olaye won the National delegate election with 30 votes, defeating other candidates while in Ikpoba-Okha, Solomon Idehen won with 28 votes beating other candidates.

In Oredo Local Government Area, Chief Osaro Idah emerged winner in a very peaceful and credible national delegate election.
