A top Benin Palace Chief, Osamede Adun, yesterday, advised that every development-conscious individual and group must work towards ensuring that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Godwin Obaseki, becomes the governor of Edo State.
The Aiyobahan of Benin gave the advice on Wednesday when he led market women, artisans, youths and various other organizations within the Benin metropolis to endorse the APC flag bearer.
Chief Adun, who is the proprietor of Bob Izua Motors, disclosed that though he has resigned from active politics, he chose to mobilize for Obaseki in order to ensure that the development legacy put in place by the Oshiomhole administration is not discontinued.
“Already, many groups in the state have lined up behind Obaseki because of the performance track record of the Comrade Governor and the APC in the state. I can tell that Obaseki is no new-comer to governance as he was the engine room of the Oshiomhole administration. So, trust me when I say he is the best man to take Edo forward.”
“Obaseki is a true son of the soil who has the good of Edo people at heart. Unlike the factional candidate of the opposition PDP, who is self-centred and arrogant, Obaseki is a man for the people, and he is very humble and accessible. He is the kind of governor who would listen to the people, and serve the state dutifully.”
Chief Adun, who is also the Chairman of Edo Butcher’s Association, urged the market women to vote en mass for the APC candidate, as he is the one who will look into the issues affecting them. “Let me assure you: whatever you do today, you do for your children’s future, yourselves and the Almighty God. I urge you all to vote for a candidate who will not steal from the Oba but will assist in building the land. You should all endeavour to tell your husbands and children that they should vote for the APC. After you have done that and we have won, we will also gather in the palace and celebrate together”. He added.
On his part, the APC flag bearer promised that his administration will empower the women so that they can become more productive. According to him, “Empowerment for market women is something I will do when I am voted into office. But this time, I will make sure that you get soft loans directly through your individual market associations. So, if Oba Market is where you trade, you will get your soft loan from Oba Market Women association. That is the same thing we will do in other markets so that real market women will be the ones receiving what is due them
