NUJ lauds gov for appointing Mayaki as CPS

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki yesterday read the riot act to would be commissioners in his administration, saying he would not hesitate to sack any of them who fails to perform.

His threat is coming on the heels of mounting anxiety in the state on when he would submit a list of the nominees to the state House of Assembly.He spoke when the leadership of Edo State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by Roland Osakwe paid him a visit at government house, Benin- City.

The governor assured that he would soon send the list to the House but said he has been organising various programmes to set a template for his administration.His words: “We have been setting standards for the in-coming commissioners so that by the time I give them responsibilities, if they are not able to perform, we will them and give the position to somebody else.

“Not all my appointees will be working in government house. I am going to have governor’s offices in the 18 local government areas.” Meanwhile, the Edo State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has commended Obaseki for appointing one of its members – John Mayaki as the Chief Press Secretary to the governor.

Speaking yesterday in Benin City during a courtesy visit to the governor, the state Chairman of NUJ, Roland Osakwe said Mayaki’s appointment was most appreciated.“We are grateful to the governor for appointing one of our own as your Chief Press Secretary. We assure you that Mr. Mayaki will leave up to the challenges of the office,” Osakwe said.
