The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has extolled the exemplary virtues of late Col. Paul Osakpamwan Ogbebor, describing him as a diligent soldier, active politician and a renowned statesman who has contributed his quota to the development of society.
Obaseki spoke in Benin City, when he led other top government functionaries, including the Chief of Staff, Chief Taiwo Akerele, on a condolence visit to the late Ogbebor’s family residence.
The governor said the war veteran is an icon that every youth in the state must strive to emulate.
He said, “Thank God for the life of our father; he lived a fulfilled life as he accomplished all he set out to achieve in his lifetime. He has contributed his quota to the development of the state. In politics, he played his part as an active politician and a renowned statesman. He is a very strong man; we will miss him”.
Obaseki continued, “He visited me about two weeks ago; he told me that he is tidying up his activities as if he knew he will soon depart this world. He was a rich man who took life easy and was never proud in all his dealings. His death has created a large vacuum that will be difficult to fill.”
The governor commended the deceased’s wife, Mrs. Anne Ogbebor, noting that together with the late veteran, they raised an amiable community of children who are well-behaved.
“Due to the role he played in developing the state and the nation, the government and the people of Edo State will join the family to bury him and celebrate his life.
“The life of late Col. Ogbebor is indelible and can never be erased in the sand of time and Edo people will come to realize the great man in our father”.
The eldest son of the deceased, Osaretin Ogbebor, thanked the governor and his entourage for the visit.
