Edo still accepting agripreneurs

The Edo State Government has revealed that it is still attending to individuals interested in participating in the ongoing agripreneural initiative, a government statement said on Friday.

Report says officials of the Ministry of Agriculture have been playing host to interested people, who are being screened to participate in the next batch.

In a statement from the Office of the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, it emerged that the state government was determined to make sure food supply was reliable and safe, hence its initiative to encourage and engage citizens in entrepreneurship through agribusiness.

“The idea is to engage and feed the lower class and the hoi polloi as well as the rapidly growing middle class to make them millionaires. Governor Godwin Obaseki’s talk on this initiative has been encouraging to peasant and middle class farmers”, his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. John Mayaki said.

Meanwhile, intending agripreneurs have been thronging the Ministry of Agriculture daily with officials screening applicants to eliminate instances of fraudulent applications.

“If, all things being equal, Governor Godwin Obaseki’s agripreneurs initiative reshapes food supply in this country, the value of food business will quadruple. Edo hopes to feed her increasing population better, while exporting a major chunk of the production from the domestic supply chains, and this could bolster Edo state’s position in becoming a major player in food supply”, Mayaki explained.
