Traditional rulers in the six Local Government Areas in Edo North have thrown their weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer in the September 10 Edo Gubernatorial elections, Godwin Obaseki, and his running mate, Philip Shaibu. In demonstration of their support, the Monarchs have made a donation towards the success of the APC campaign.
Speaking on behalf of all the traditional rulers who converged at his palace, the Otaru of Auchi, Alhaji Aliru H. Momoh, Ikelebe III, disclosed that their support for Obaseki is premised on his remarkable achievement as Chairman of the Economy & Strategy Team in the Adams Oshiomhole government, and that the donation is intended to further boost his campaign to continue to good works of the present administration as Governor of the state.
While assuring Obaseki that he will win the election with a landslide in the whole of Edo North, the revered Monarch said, “What is destined by Almighty God, nobody can alter it; nobody can violate it; nobody can overtake it. So, we are happy to make that bold statement today because we have no doubt that the one who is propelling you and giving you to Edo State for this special assignment is God himself. And because of that, we are assuring you that we will continue to pray for your success in this exercise.”
Also speaking, the Okuokpelagbe of Okpella, HRH Yesufu Dirisu, and the Olokpe of Okpe, Oba Idogun of Okpe noted that the traditional rulers in the area decided to stand on the path of development which was started by Oshiomhole about eight years ago, and prayed that God will grant Obaseki success in the poll.
According to the Okpella ruler, “It is not flattery to state that all traditional rulers – both openly and in their private rooms – are praying for you because of what you have done for us; what you have done for Edo State, and Nigeria as a whole.”
Expressing his gratitude to the royal fathers for their show of support, the APC governorship candidate, Obaseki, said: “I feel truly humbled but, more importantly, I feel immensely challenged because your gesture here today is a sign that you have believe in us and have huge expectations of us.”
“I want to assure you that we will not let you down! Over the next four years we will attract huge investments to the state, which will benefit every Edo citizen. To get investors, however, we have to guarantee security of their investments, and who can do that more than our royal fathers – the custodian of the traditional institutions and the ones closest to the people? Indeed, you remain an integral part of this government, and we promise that we will carry you along every step of the way as we work to take Edo to higher grounds.”
Twenty-three Royal Fathers from different kingdoms, communities and domains across Edo North were at the palace of the Otaru of Auchi to endorse the APC candidate, Obaseki, and his running mate, Shaibu.
