The Edo State Chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Monday threw its weight behind the Godwin Obaseki-led administration which the association said was improving the lives of Edo people without making noise about it.
Speaking during a visit to the governor at Government House in Benin City, the President of the association, Mr. Ede Asenoguan, explained that after a careful appraisal of the developmental efforts of the governor, members of Edo NBA at one of their interactive sessions agreed that there was need to join hands with the Edo State Government to improve the socio-economic well-being of the Edo people.
Presenting a report of the workshop organised by the association with the theme: “Charting a Road Map for a Better Edo State”, Mr. Asenoguan, said the fall out of the workshop had inputs from professionals drawn from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), manufacturers, engineers, among others who deliberated on the state government’s vision, towards charting a road map for a better Edo State.
Receiving the report, Governor Obaseki commended the state NBA for aligning itself with the vision of the state government in order to achieve a better society.
“Governance cannot be we against you. I am very excited and happy about this idea and l think we can work together. The purpose of this workshop was to have a broad definition of what the problems are and how to deal with them. There is a broad consensus on where we should be heading. As a government, we do not pretend to have the monopoly of solutions to all the problems of society,” Obaseki said.
He pointed out that the state was determined to provide the dividend of democracy to the people through strong institutions and would partner with the NBA by adopting the report of the workshop.
He commended the association for supporting the government’s resolve to build and create a progressive and better society.
