The APC Guber candidate for the 2016 Edo state elections, Mr Godwin Obaseki yesterday in Illinois, Chicago addressed hundreds of Edo citizens in EDO HOUSE and reinstated his commitment to creating the enabling environment for the rapid industrialisation of Edo state under his leadership as Governor.
Mr Obaseki told the gathering that one of his solutions to resolving any element of insecurity in the state is the creation of employment opportunities through medium and small scale industries. He promised to sustain the ongoing CBN micro credit scheme by growing the equity contribution of the state in the fund and making it more easily accessible to women and entrepreneurs across the state. Mr Obaseki used the occasion to thank Edo citizens in diaspora on the role they have played in the last three decades in the economic development of the state through their remittances, private housing development and establishment of small industries.
On the issue of local government effectiveness and impact on rural development, the man popularly referred to as G.O agreed that local government administration could be more efficient in service delivery to the people, he promised that under his government, there are certain functions such as rural roads construction, market development and primary education that must be funded by the LGAs and others in conjunction with the state government, he stated that as an entrepreneur, he wont supervise inefficiency rather he will ensure high impact governance using available human capital and fiscal resources in the state.
He enjoined Edo state people in diaspora to take advantage of the strategic location of the state to partner with other credible investors and invest in agriculture especially rice production, palm oil produce and coca products, he also reminded them that Edo state is blessed with solid mineral deposits which must be harnessed for the benefits of the people and the profit of investors while reducing poverty to the barest minimum and accelerating economic growth in rural areas. He announced that one of the far reaching impact of the Oshiomhole regime is in the area of Public Private Partnerships (PPP) and the ongoing public financial management reforms in the state.
The occasion was graced by very respected Edo people in diaspora amongst whom were the Bishop Dr Stephen Aghahowa Presiding Bishop of All Saints Christian Assembly, International, Mrs Esther Tongo, the Chief Executive Officer of the American Popular Esther Authentic Foods and Ready Stew, and Sam Aiyuwo of Samesosa Realty and Property Management company who had earlier in his speech called for good governance in Edo state and support for positive development across board.
Chicago city is the last stop of Mr Obaseki’s diaspora America tour that took him and a small team to Atlanta, New York and Houston. One of the highpoint of the gathering was the marking of his birthday with cake cutting, prayers and solidarity songs.
