The Godwin Obaseki Campaign Organisation (GOCO) wishes to notify all relevant authorities, election monitors, the media and the general public that in line with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) we are discontinuing all campaigns and advertisement towards the September 28 Edo gubernatorial elections on Monday, September 26, 2016.

While we are deeply appreciative of the sponsored campaign adverts that are being run by various groups and individual well-wishers – both locally and in the diaspora – in support of the governorship bid of the APC flagbearer, Godwin Obaseki, and his running mate, Philip Shaibu, we are requesting that all political adverts be stopped as stipulated by INEC, and we would like to state that GOCO would not accept liability for any violations.

All through the campaigns we have stuck to our ideology – a purely issues-based election campaign based on facts, figures and projections. As we come out on Wednesday to cast our vote, let us keep in mind that there are two main choices before us: the choice of going back to ‘the biblical Egypt’ – with decaying public infrastructure and looting of our commonwealth by a few greedy people; or the choice of going forward to ‘the Promised Land’ – with real, people-centered social and economic development, which the APC has offered these last eight years.

As Governor, Godwin Obaseki will continue the remarkable infrastructural revolution started by the current administration; he will build more roads, particularly in the rural areas; he will continue rebuilding our schools and transforming our educational and healthcare system. And more importantly, He will empower our women, youths and, indeed, all Edo citizens, with jobs so that we can be able to take care of our families and ourselves.

In his final appeal to Edo people, Obaseki said: “I am aware that things are difficult and tough for us today – as a result of the global economic recession and the failure of previous governments to plan for our tomorrow – and that is the more reason why we cannot afford to gamble with our future. But in all of these problems I see a big opportunity for us as a people! I believe that we can rise above our current challenges and make Edo a truly prosperous state for us all. What we need is a leader with the integrity, expertise and experience in solving complex economic problems and – by the grace of God – that is what I have done all my life.”

“So I am asking you to come out tomorrow to vote for me (and my party – the APC) – so that together, we can build the Edo State of Our Dreams: a modern and progressive Edo where every citizen is empowered with opportunity to live life to its fullness.”

“Finally, I want to reiterate that my ambition – or that of any person – is not worth the blood of any Edo citizen. So, I enjoin you all to eschew violence and go about the electioneering process peacefully.”

God bless you all!

God bless Edo State!

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
